Brazing is a joining process that heats filler metal to a fluid temperature and evenly distributes it between two close-fitting parts. Brazing allows for a tighter bond in comparison to welding or soldering. The molten filler metal bonds with the base metal to form a strong, sealed joint. In manufacturing, brazing also allows you to join the same or different metals with considerable strength, giving greater flexibility.
What Are The Benefits of Brazing?
Furnace brazing is best for large batches and requires the right atmosphere to facilitate a strong braze joint and better surface quality. This process allows for controlled heat levels and increased production. The brazing process requires high temperatures and a filler metal that is above 840°F (450°C). While furnace brazing has its benefits, the high heat can cause oxidation, if the atmosphere you are working with contains oxygen. These oxides on joints can hinder the process.
To resolve this, Linde can provide a reducing atmosphere that consists of hydrogen and nitrogen to minimize oxide formation and reduce existing oxide, ultimately resulting in higher quality joints.
