LINDE liquid nitrogen for recovery, inerting, PRESSURIZATION and VOC REMOVAL

Terminal operations benefit from nitrogen use

Today's terminal industry is experiencing a strong increase in demand for storage capacity that coincides with economic activity fluctuations. For this reason, it is more important than ever to take advantage of cost-effective improvements to help enhance overall operations and process control.

Our industrial gas applications can help reduce your costs and improve your operations. Linde has industry experience working with terminal operators to keep facilities operating with a focus on safety and efficiency.

Inerting headspace with nitrogen

When storing highly volatile substances or substances prone to oxidation, safety and product preservation are of paramount importance. Inerting with nitrogen is a dependable method for constantly maintaining a protective layer of gas on top of the product.

This involves replacing the humid air in the head space with high-purity, inert and totally dry nitrogen. A precise valve control system ensures that as the tank is filled or emptied, the nitrogen content adjusts automatically to maintain the protective blanket. The result is reliability and protection against degradation through oxidation.

Addressing pressurization requirements

Nitrogen minimizes downtime and reduces risks during turnarounds and routine maintenance throughout your facility. Nitrogen and nitrogen applications technology includes accelerated cooling, pipeline evacuation, accelerated drying, and inert entry support.

Linde provides nitrogen applications such as mobile nitrogen pumping services to pipeline right-of-ways, remote valve stations, and terminals for a wide range of project needs including tool propellant and product displacement, drying, gas line purging and blanketing, pneumatic pressure testing, and interior cleaning.

Removing volatile compounds from processing streams

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) can pose a challenge for terminal storage facilities that must ensure the compounds are not unwittingly released into the atmosphere. As VOCs represent a serious health, safety compliance and environmental hazard, their release is strictly regulated by law.

Cryogenic condensation of VOC loaded off-gas streams with liquid nitrogen is an ideal way to efficiently condense VOCs and capture them so they can be routed back into the process or further treated. Linde offers the CIRRUS system for hydrocarbon emissions control. The important benefits are:

  • Minimizing the release of VOCs into the atmosphere
  • Recovering valuable VOCs to save costs
  • Efficient use of nitrogen, once as a liquid and then as a gas:
    - Cryogenic cooling with liquid nitrogen for VOC emission control
    - Inerting with the gaseous nitrogen that exits the cryogenic cooling process
  • Supporting all system configurations
  • Simple, reliable systems
  • No ignition source
  • No NOx or wastewater generation
