Industrial gases for the PLASTICS & RUBBER industry
Nitrogen
Nitrogen is mainly used for gas injection molding. It is used to produce hollow parts or parts with hollow sections. The use of high-purity nitrogen avoids oxidation of the plastic under high temperatures and gas pressures, thus ensuring a stable process with minimized clogging of gas injectors, leading to little downtime and lower scrap rates.
Carbon Dioxide
Carbon dioxide is used in injection molding, foaming, and cleaning. In injection molding, more efficient processes with shorter cycle times are created by replacing gaseous nitrogen with liquid CO2 or by cooling hot spots causing currently long cycle times. CO2 is an environmentally friendly and inexpensive blowing agent in extrusion foaming, polyurethane foaming, and injection molding foaming. CO2 snow or pellets are also widely used to clean plastic surfaces and molds before painting.
