MEMOSS™ nitrogen membrane systems use hollow fiber membranes that are formed into bundles and fixed between tube sheets in a cylindrical cartridge. Compressed air is passed through an air pre-treatment system before entering the cartridge. In a single pass, oxygen and other gases permeate through the membranes, and are vented to atmosphere outside the unit. Purity of the nitrogen product is determined by adjusting the flow. Depending upon the application, the pure nitrogen leaving the unit goes directly to the process, or to a suitably dimensioned buffer tank.
The output from a membrane cartridge is dependent upon three factors. The pressure and temperature of the feed air, and the purity level required for the nitrogen. The membrane units are connected to a 75 to 175 psig compressed plant air supply or an air compressor can be installed by Linde. Capacities can be adjusted by increasing the number of membrane cartridges in the cabinet. Within this range, two cabinet sizes are available, one for up to three membranes and a larger cabinet designed for four to six cartridges. The options available are: oil free feed air compressor, refridge dryer, oxygen analyzer and cabinet in stainless steel.
