Bridgewater, N.J., U.S., June 06, 2018 Akin Malas, Head of Metals & Glass Application Technology, Linde Americas Development Hub, will discuss how to troubleshoot and control heat-treatment furnace atmospheres for more consistent parts quality at the Thermal Processing in Motion (TPIM) Conference, June 5-7 in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
The presentation, titled “Troubleshooting Heat Treatment Furnace Atmospheres -- and New Control Technologies to Avoid Problems,” is scheduled for Thursday, June 7 at 11:30 a.m.
“Hundreds of variables can affect parts quality, making heat treatment something of a black art,” Malas said. “The furnace atmosphere performs a host of functions during a heat treatment cycle, and you have to rule out common problems for efficient troubleshooting to fully optimize the process.”
Beyond troubleshooting, Malas will discuss strategies for achieving atmosphere uniformity and controlling carbon potential and oxidation/reduction reactions. He will also review new technologies including: 1) CARBOJET® injection technology to improve atmosphere mixing and convection, 2) the CARBOFLEXTM atmosphere control system for optimizing heat treatment conditions across multiple zones, and 3) OXYSENSORTM probes for fast and effective atmosphere and gas sampling and analysis.
